Welcome

Midge

Midge Monat, aka Michele, grew up on Long Island and learned her appreciation of nature and the environment through her many years of scouting.  After graduating SUNY New Paltz she began teaching Kindergarten.  She was a past NYS Elementary Science Teacher of the Year and her passion has always been working with children and integrating the environment with the mediums that the children were familiar with, such as: finger paint, leaves, bark, dried flowers, weeds, cutting, and pasting.  She often came home with as much paint on herself as the kids did.  She called herself a frustrated art teacher.

When Midge retired she decided to pursue her love of the arts which her grandmother introduced her to as a child visiting all the museums in New York City.  She has been teaching Grad School at SUNY New Paltz and Supervising Student Teachers.  In her travels she kept passing the Wallkill River School, when it was in the store in Montgomery.  One day she decided to stop in and so Midge’s passion for painting began.

Midge loves to camp, canoe, read, and travel.  She is a worldwide traveler from England to China and 49 of the 50 states.  Her greatest regret was that she wasn’t introduced to painting during that time of her life.  She said that since taking numerous classes at the Wallkill River School she now doesn’t just look but she sees things in a new way.
